THE founder of Vault city – one of the UK’s best-selling sour beer brands – has hailed a new deal with supermarket giant Morrison’s as a ‘major milestone’ for the booming business.

The nationwide deal will see Morrisons – one of the UK’s big five supermarket chains –– stock two new and exclusive product lines from the Edinburgh-based brewer across its 497 stores across the UK.

The new flavours – Dark Fruits and Peach & Passion Fruit Bellini – have been created exclusively for the Morrison’s launch, and ‘the Wizards of Sour Beer’ at Vault City say they will help push the boundaries of what consumers expect from sour beer.

The deal is the latest major supermarket placement for Vault City, which recently announced becoming the best-selling craft beer in Tesco where it occupies shelf space in more than 600 UK stores.

Steven Smith Hay, co-founder of Vault City, said: “We’re so excited for our beers to be launching in Morrisons. It’s a huge milestone for Vault City and a great opportunity for us to continue bringing sour beer to new audiences.”

“We wanted to create something that helps push the boundaries of what people would typically expect from a beer.”

“We’ve used literally tonnes of real fruit in the recipes so they’re incredibly refreshing, and perfect for summer.”

“Both Dark Fruits and Peach & Passion Fruit Bellini are brand new beers we’ve brewed exclusively for Morrison’s. It’s amazing to think that they’ll be on shelves across all 497 stores.”

Smith Hay co-founded Vault City in 2018, and it has since grown to become one of the UK’s best-selling sour beer brands, with turnover exceeding £2 million for the first time this year.

A stellar 2022 for the brewer has also included the launch of its first core range, which was listed by close to 200 independent bars and pubs across the UK, and a successful crowdfunding campaign to help fund the launch of the new Porty Vaults bar and smokehouse in Portobello.

Vault City also received national attention by becoming the first UK brewer to formally adopt a four-day working week in January this year.
