International law firm CMS is to host an event later this month to support Scotland’s food and drink sector to develop and safeguard their brand’s intellectual property (IP).

Led by CMS partner and IP specialist Neeraj Thomas and fellow IP specialist Cara McGlynn, the free-to-attend seminar will be of interest to all food and drink brands and will focus on the current legal landscape in terms of IP protection, including an update on some important recent cases in the sector, and some learnings from those cases.

The speakers will also cover issues concerning registered and unregistered designs, how best to deal with descriptive trade marks and will share some tips on how brands can deal with copycat products.

CMS partner Neeraj Thomas said: “This seminar, part of CMS Scotland’s Food and Drink Kernel series, comes at an important time in the industry.  The last year or so has seen the courts issue some very interesting decisions in the worlds of IP and Food and Drink and we look forward to sharing some practical take aways from those cases.”

“We will also look at the advantages of enforcing rights in the Scottish IP Court and the opportunity this presents for brands in the sector producers in protecting their IP.”

The event takes place online at 9.30 on 12 June. Further information and registration details can be found (cms.law) events
