Shots of a new bakery set to open in Glasgow’s west end have been revealed as its owner plans to usher in a new era: ‘brot winter’.

As Bavarian Bakehouse prepares to open its doors today on Hyndland Street, it has unveiled a sneak peek of the delicious sourdough, pretzels, bagels and supersized cakes as well as its 2024 Christmas range.

It’s the first time in almost two decades that Glasgow’s oldest artisan bakery is opening a new shop in the West End – and since the opening coincides with Charli XCX’s Glasgow gig on Monday (December 2), it’s celebrating with an offer fans are sure to love.

Concertgoers can receive a free coffee and cake this weekend – all they need to do is show their ticket.

Fans can also enjoy limited-edition version of their famous pineapple tart – the Pineapple BRAT – or simply a slice of homemade BROT (German for bread).

If you’re not planning to be a “proper 365 party girl”, you can still be in with a chance of freebies. The first 50 customers tomorrow morning will also receive 10% discount cards to be used throughout December –  perfect for stocking up on festive treats.

Owner Kathleen McShane, who lives near the bakery, said: “We’re very excited to be opening in the midst of the winter weather, offering warming drinks and delicious baked goods to help keep the cold weather at bay.

“I’m told we ought to be calling it Brinter or Brat Winter, but perhaps we should say it’s a Brot Winter, borrowing from the German word for bread. Either way, it’s the season to indulge – and we’re ready to serve.

“We’re huge fans of Charli XCX here in the bakery and had Brat on all summer, so to celebrate her upcoming Sweat Tour, we’ve got a treat for all the brats attending her concert.”

Bavarian Bakehouse, which supplies many of Scotland’s most popular venues, including Brel,Billingtons and Roots and Fruits, is known for its high-quality, handmade sourdough, pretzels, cakes, and pastries. It uses a sourdough starter as old as the business itself.

The new shop will feature these well-loved staples and act as a testing ground for new products. It will also serve coffee sourced from Thomsons Coffee, Glasgow’s oldest roaster.

Celebrities such as Noel Gallagher and the Foo Fighters have enjoyed their artisan rolls and pastries, with the Oasis frontman once calling their sourdough rolls the best he’d ever tasted during the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards at Kelvingrove.
