Iain Clunie, Net Zero Programme Director – Scotland Food & Drink Partnership Net Zero Commitment, in response to the Scottish Government’s announcement of £5 million in co-funding to support businesses in upgrading to more energy-efficient systems.

“We welcome the Scottish Government’s announcement of £5 million in co-funding to help businesses upgrade to more energy-efficient systems. Improving energy efficiency is one of the most practical, cost-effective steps food and drink businesses can take on the path to Net Zero – helping to lower emissions while reducing overheads.

“The food and drink sector is a substantial contributor to Scotland’s economy and plays a key role in delivering the country’s climate ambitions. While many businesses are committed to sustainability, research conducted by the Scotland Food & Drink Partnership Net Zero Commitment programme in early 2023 highlighted ongoing challenges in navigating energy transition pathways and identifying suitable solutions.

“This funding is a positive step toward supporting our manufacturers, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises facing economic pressures as they work to decarbonise.

“To maximise its impact, this investment must be accompanied by clear, accessible guidance so businesses can make informed decisions and realise the full benefits of the transition.

“The Scotland Food & Drink Partnership Net Zero Programme remains committed to supporting the food and drink sector through this journey and welcomes continued dialogue with businesses and stakeholders alike.”
