HOGMANAY marks the first full year of business for The Lobster Shop, a family venture located at the harbourside in Johnshaven. Since completion of the newbuild project in late 2020, it has proudly showcased some of the best seafood and local produce that Scotland’s North East has to offer.
Visitors from near and far have flocked to the coastal village throughout the year, eager to experience the exquisite flavour and richness of carefully prepared lobster and crab, uniquely presented through a variety of simple but compellingly moreish recipes that clearly demonstrate a real passion for shellfish.
Set right in the heart of the nation’s creel fishing industry, The Lobster Shop is supplied daily with the finest of catches straight from the local fleet. Visitors can observe the creel fishing boats operating offshore from the rustic seating area on the sea wall nearby or engage with staff members delighted to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for sustainable seafood.
“We’ve welcomed some very interesting and dignified guests over recent months which has certainly helped promote our products”, explained Loren McBay. “It’s an absolute joy to see customers appreciate just how tasty our local seafood can be and relish the opportunity to take a pre-cooked lobster or shellfish platter home to share with family and friends.”
The Lobster Shop, through a mix of educational media, presentations and events aims to promote more than just the delightful taste of local Scottish seafood.

“For over 75 years our family has played a key part in the supply of fresh Scottish shellfish to wholesalers, retailers and restaurants across the UK and Europe, working closely with our local fishers and developing lasting relationships”, continued Loren. “We now have a greater opportunity to present how our combined skills and techniques advocate responsible and sustainable creel fishing for the future”.
