ABERDEENSHIRE-based vodka and gin brand, Still Spirited, scored top prizes at the prestigious Spirits Selection by CMB awards in Italy earlier this month. Still Spirited was awarded Silver for both their vodka and gin at this year’s event, with judges selecting winners based on the quality, character and balance of the spirit.
The brand, which was only launched in Spring 2023, is the brainchild of husband and wife duo Paul and Katrina Allan. Paul is Managing Director of the third-generation, North-East baker Murdoch Allan. After previously focusing solely on baked goods, Paul and Katrina tried their hand at distilling in 2020 and the Still Spirited brand was born.
The vodka, which is made from wheat, has an extremely smooth, clean taste with hints of vanilla and toffee that can be enjoyed on its own, with a mixer or in customers’ favourite cocktails. Still Spirited gin, which is distilled at 43.1% ABV, is infused with flavours of juniper, citrus and spices, creating a distinctly fresh flavour.
The Spirits Selection by CMB is an international competition recognising the best spirit drinks from around the globe. Spirits such as whiskies, rums, vodkas, gins and tequilas are blind-tasted and evaluated by a panel of experts. This year, there were 138 judges representing 33 nationalities including journalists, importers/distributors, master blenders and winemakers to name a few.
In 2023, the number of entries to the competition increased by 17%, with organisers commenting on the high level of quality amongst this year’s entrants. Still Spirited was the only vodka distilled in the UK to be awarded and the only Scottish gin to earn an accolade this year.
Paul said: “Winning Silver for both our vodka and gin is a testament to the hard work and effort we put into sourcing the best local ingredients whilst not compromising on taste. We hope to continue this level of quality as we extend our product range – we are aiming to launch our first Still Spirited flavoured gin by Spring 2024.”
Katrina added: “This is a major milestone for Still Spirited as a new drinks brand on the market. To be recognised on an international stage, alongside so many fantastic drinks brands that are at the forefront of innovation in the sector, is an honour.”
Still Spirited vodka and gin retail at £36 and £32.50 respectively per 70cl bottle. For a limited time only, the company is also offering no delivery charge for online orders.
