Crisp lovers can create unique flavours at Waverley Market
Golden Wonder is bringing its World of Wonder experience back to Scotland this September, offering crisp enthusiasts in Edinburgh a chance to create their own unique flavour of crisps. The free interactive pop-up follows a successful event in Glasgow earlier this month, where hundreds of Scots participated. The World of Wonder will be open at Edinburgh’s Waverley Market on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September from 9.30am to 6.30pm. The crisp brand reports that a packet of Golden Wonder crisps is bought every three seconds in Scotland.
Visitors to the World of Wonder can work with Golden Wonder flavour experts to develop a personalised crisp seasoning. The menu for custom flavours includes options ranging from mango jalapeño and haggis to traditional choices like sea salt and vinegar. Once created, this unique seasoning will be used to make a bespoke bag of Golden Wonder crisps, with attendees also having the opportunity to tumble their own crisps, a process typically performed using large rotating drums.

Along with their custom-flavoured crisps, visitors will receive a flavour pot of their unique seasoning to use in their everyday cooking. Phil Holford of Golden Wonder stated, “World of Wonder is all about having fun with flavour. We had such a brilliant response last year, we knew we had to bring it back – bigger, better and packed with the punchy flavour that Golden Wonder is known and loved for. We’re giving Scots the chance to get creative, experiment with different tastes and make something that’s completely their own, and we can’t wait to see what flavour combinations Edinburgh comes up with”.
Golden Wonder was founded in Edinburgh in 1947 by baker William Alexander, who began experimenting with frying sliced potatoes. The brand, which is almost 80 years old, now includes popular flavours such as Spring Onion and Chip Shop Curry. Golden Wonder claims it sells enough crisps each year to fill Hampden Park 184 times over.
