Lomond Fine Foods, a Glasgow-based foodservice wholesaler, is expanding its Port Dundas headquarters by 12,000 square feet to accommodate the increasing demand for its products.
The family-run business, which serves a range of deli items, seafood dishes, and bakery treats to 2,500 customers, has doubled its storage capacity to 4,000 pallets at its now 48,000-square-foot warehouse.
Expansion Details and Financial Support
The expansion, supported by a £3.5 million funding package from the Bank of Scotland, aligns with Lomond Fine Foods’ ambitious goal of reaching £90 million in sales by 2028.
This growth not only increases storage capacity but also enhances the company’s sustainability efforts:
- Added roof space for solar panels, boosting renewable energy capacity by 30%
- Introduction of electric cars
- Installation of a rainwater tank
These initiatives support the company’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and its aspiration for B-Corp status.
Company Background and Growth
Founded in 1997 by Sam and Barbara Henderson, a husband-and-wife team, Lomond Fine Foods has evolved from a sandwich manufacturing business to a key player in the UK food wholesale market. The company now supplies various products to cafés, hotels, restaurants, and caterers nationwide.
The business has truly become a family affair, with the founders’ daughters taking on significant roles:
- Lauren Ingram: “Director of Cake,” leading the bakery arm
- Meghan Sievewright: Head of the procurement team
The bakery division, launched in 2011, has achieved remarkable success. It generates £5 million annually in sales and supplies major retailers like Tesco and Dunelm Mill.
Commitment to Local Sourcing and Innovation
Lomond Fine Foods demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting local communities and delivering fresh flavours:
- Over two-fifths of its food is locally sourced, with a focus on Scottish suppliers
- The company hosts food innovation trade shows, such as ‘Taste at Lomond,’ featuring over 90 suppliers
This expansion and the company’s dedication to sustainability and local sourcing position Lomond Fine Foods for continued growth in the competitive food wholesale market.
Sam Henderson, managing director at Lomond Fine Foods, said: “Never in our wildest dreams did Barbara and I imagine that two decades after starting our humble sandwich business from the back of a van, we would end up where we are today.
“Now we’re on our way to hitting a turnover of £90 million, and our bakery produce is sought after by huge global retailers, all while deeply embedded in Scotland’s vibrant food scene and partnering with brilliant businesses every day.
“Social and environmental responsibility, transparency and accountability are extremely important to us. Extending our base in Port Dundas really unlocks our ability to meet environmental goals along with our growth plans.
“It’s comforting to know that Stephen and the team at Bank of Scotland are there for us, helping us to grow and become more eco-friendly.”
Stephen Owens, relationship director at Bank of Scotland, said: “Sam and the team at Lomond Fine Foods have demonstrated their commitment to innovation and sustainability.
“This expansion is yet another testament to their dedication to growing their business while being as green as possible.
“We eagerly anticipate seeing Sam and the team achieve B-Corp status very soon – a well-deserved recognition of their efforts and a significant milestone in their impressive journey.”
