A city centre ice cream parlour has officially reopened following a major refurbishment designed to bring a stronger sense of its rural roots into the heart of Aberdeen.

Mackie’s 19.2, the Marischal Square parlour run by Mackie’s of Scotland, welcomed customers back on Monday 9th March after a three-week closure for its first significant redesign since opening in 2017.

The transformation blends a fresh, modern look with a rustic charm that brings the connection to the Mackie’s family farm – just 19.2 miles away – to life, while keeping the customer experience firmly at the heart of the parlour.

Yvette Harrison, Parlour Manager at Mackie’s 19.2, said: “This refurbishment has been about reconnecting the parlour with where our ice cream begins, on the family farm, while making sure the space works better for our customers here in the city.

“It’s a challenging time for retail, particularly here in Aberdeen, but we’re incredibly proud of our home city and wanted to show our commitment by continuing to invest in the parlour.

“For us, it’s about creating a welcoming space where people can relax, spend time together and enjoy what we do best.

“The new design feels more relaxed and the updated layout makes it easier for people to move through the parlour, even when we’re busy.”

As well as aesthetic changes, the refurbishment introduces practical improvements designed to enhance day-to-day operations.

A new one-way customer flow has been created through the parlour, helping to ease movement during peak periods and support faster service.

Two self-service ordering kiosks have also been installed, allowing customers to place orders quickly while reducing queues at busy times.

The refreshed layout also includes a dedicated children’s play area for the first time, creating a more family-friendly environment for visitors stopping for a scoop or two. The parlour will also feature a new toppings station at the till designed to display the parlour’s wide range of sauces, sprinkles and sweet additions.

Outside, the seating area has been updated to make the most of the vibrant atmosphere of Marischal Square as the warmer months approach.

Yvette added: “The space served us brilliantly for many years, but it felt like the right moment to refresh both how it looks and how it operates.

“We’ve kept everything people love about visiting the parlour while making the experience smoother, more comfortable and more welcoming for families and visitors.”

The reopening has been timed to coincide with the busy spring period, with the revamped parlour ready to welcome customers throughout the upcoming Mother’s Day weekend.

Located just 19.2 miles from Mackie’s family farm, the Marischal Square parlour has become a Granite City favourite since opening, known for its indulgent sundaes, fresh milkshakes and farm-made ice cream and chocolate.
