A Perthshire country house hotel famed for its lochside setting and award-winning kitchen has been ranked among the top 1% of hotels worldwide in Tripadvisor’s latest Traveller’s Choice Awards.

The Green Park Hotel in Pitlochry, which overlooks the tranquil waters of Loch Faskally, has secured a place in the platform’s ‘Best of the Best Hotels UK’ list. The accolade recognises properties that consistently achieve outstanding reviews from guests over a 12-month period.

Only three Scottish hotels met the criteria this year, with The Green Park Hotel joining Edinburgh’s 100 Princes Street and Auchrannie Resort on the Isle of Arran.

The 51-bedroom hotel recorded an impressive overall rating of 4.9 out of 5 from 860 reviews, alongside a 92% satisfaction score. Across the UK rankings, only 10 of the top 25 hotels achieved a similarly high rating from guests.

Globally, the list features standout properties from destinations including Indonesia, Vietnam, Canada, New York, Costa Rica and Australia.

The hotel’s continued success is underpinned by its food offering, led by Head Chef Graeme Pallister, a former Scottish Chef of the Year. The Green Park Hotel has now appeared in Tripadvisor’s top 25 UK hotels in seven of the past eight years.

Owners Alistair and Diane McMenemie, who have run the hotel since 1996, credit both the strength of the kitchen and a people-focused staffing approach for the consistent recognition.

Alistair McMenemie said: “These awards are great for the staff. It is very difficult for properties worldwide to achieve 90% positive ratings. The fact we are at 92% is testimony to them.

“We are very lucky in that we have very low staff turnover. We pay above the Living Wage and we try to have enough staff working so that they have time to be friendly and attentive to our guests. It makes a real difference to guests and it means a lot to us.

“I think that shows in the number of returning guests we have. The quality of the food is also a factor in people coming back, so it is really pleasing to be in the top 1% and it gives everyone a bit of excitement.”

Originally built in 1889, The Green Park Hotel today combines a central Victorian wing with a Tower and Garden wing, all set within landscaped grounds on the edge of the loch.

The gardens themselves feature distinctive touches, including ‘The Lady of the Loch’ sculpture, hand-crafted ironwork and wildlife-inspired art, reflecting the natural surroundings and resident red squirrel population.

Alongside its leisure offering, the hotel hosts a range of themed retreats throughout the year, including astronomy, film, photography and art history breaks, further enhancing its appeal as a Highland destination.
