Independently owned RAD Hotel Group has announced the landmark acquisition of the five-star Lochgreen House Hotel & Spa in Troon, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing expansion across Scotland.

The deal brings the family-run group’s portfolio to ten properties and introduces its first five-star hotel, strengthening RAD Hotel Group’s position within Scotland’s luxury hospitality, dining and wedding sectors while further promoting Ayrshire as a premier destination.

Renowned for its luxury spa, elegant accommodation and award-winning wedding offering, Lochgreen House Hotel has long been synonymous with Scottish hospitality excellence. The property has built an international reputation, attracting visitors to Ayrshire’s celebrated golfing coastline, including nearby Royal Troon.

The acquisition follows an agreement with respected hotelier Bill Costley, whose stewardship has been instrumental in establishing Lochgreen as one of Scotland’s leading country house hotels and wedding venues.

RAD Hotel Group has confirmed its intention to honour both the legacy of Lochgreen and Costley’s contribution to the region’s hospitality sector. Plans are in place to preserve the hotel’s historic character, with its period features and rich heritage set to inform future interior design and guest experiences.

Originally constructed as a private mansion in the early 19th century, Lochgreen House Hotel has evolved into one of Scotland’s most distinguished country house hotels, while retaining its architectural elegance and longstanding reputation for excellence.

Aaron Kyle, Director at RAD Hotel Group, said: “As one Ayrshire family-owned business succeeds another, we are incredibly proud to welcome Lochgreen House Hotel into the RAD Hotel Group collection. More than two years in the making, this marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for one of Scotland’s most treasured hospitality destinations.

“Becoming custodians of Lochgreen is a responsibility we take with great pride, and one we are committed to honouring every day. Bill Costley has created something truly special, and as he steps into a well-deserved retirement, our priority is to protect and build upon the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.

“The trust he has placed in RAD Hotel Group means a great deal to us, and we are committed to preserving everything that has made Lochgreen one of Scotland’s most respected hotels, while continuing to deliver the exceptional hospitality and service our guests expect.

“We are excited to write the next chapter in Lochgreen’s story, welcoming visitors from around the world while continuing to be a place where local families and generations of guests come together to celebrate life’s most memorable moments. Our ambition is simple – to ensure Lochgreen continues to thrive for generations to come.”

RAD Hotel Group has developed a strong reputation for investing in and enhancing historic hospitality venues, successfully blending heritage preservation with modern guest and wedding experiences. The acquisition of Lochgreen follows the addition of several landmark Scottish hotels in recent years, including Seamill Hydro and Brig o’ Doon House Hotel, the latter also acquired from Bill Costley.

The group confirmed that Lochgreen House Hotel & Spa will continue to operate as normal throughout the transition, with no disruption to guests, wedding couples or event organisers. All existing bookings, deposits and Lochgreen gift vouchers will be honoured, and customers with upcoming reservations will be contacted directly.

All hotel staff have been retained, ensuring continuity of service, while holders of Costley Hotel Group gift vouchers will be able to redeem them across the group’s remaining properties.

The announcement comes shortly after RAD Hotel Group’s acquisition of the boutique nine-bedroom Seamill House Hotel in West Kilbride earlier this month, underlining the group’s continued investment in Ayrshire’s hospitality landscape.
