Strathmore Hotels Limited has entered administration, with the operator’s eight hotels across Scotland and the north of England continuing to trade while options for the business are explored.
Joint administrators Alistair McAlinden and James Alexander Dewar of Interpath Advisory were appointed on 11 August 2026. The appointment follows a winding-up petition filed by a creditor in July, according to Administration List.
McAlinden said: “The hospitality sector has faced a number of significant challenges in recent years, including rising operating costs, inflationary pressures, workforce shortages and changing consumer spending patterns.
“Unfortunately, Strathmore Hotels has not been immune to these headwinds and has also experienced sustained financial difficulties, resulting in the appointment of the joint administrators.
“Our immediate priority is to ensure continuity across the business.
“We recognise that this news may be concerning for employees, customers, and suppliers.”
The East Kilbride-based group operates a portfolio spanning key tourism destinations, including the Alexandra Hotel and Ben Nevis Hotel & Leisure Club in Fort William; the Ben Wyvis Hotel in Strathpeffer; the Nethybridge Hotel near Aviemore; the Royal Hotel in Oban; and the Salutation Hotel in Perth.

Around 410 employees have been retained, with all eight hotels remaining open during the administration process. Administrators are now considering the available options for the business and its sites.
The group’s administration places a well-established operator of leisure and tourism accommodation under the control of Interpath, at a time when its hotels remain operational across several of Scotland’s busiest visitor destinations as well as locations in Yorkshire and Cumbria.
