World Cocktail Day is a worldwide celebration of cocktails, commemorating the anniversary of the first time ‘cocktail’ was defined in print.

Whether you enjoy a zesty and spicy Margs, a chic Cosmo or a wake-me-up Espresso Martini, one thing is for sure when it comes to cocktails – there’s something for everyone.

And with mocktails making waves in the mixologist’s world, they’ve elevated themselves to so much more than a designated driver’s drink of choice.

Florals, fizzy, fruity and herbal, cocktail connoisseurs have never been more enamoured by the meu options in bars across the country than none.

Founder of M.Ad Agency, Alice Christison, who runs Cocktail Week events across the UK and Ireland, reveals why cocktails still stand the test of time.

“They represent fun in a glass and never let you down. No matter your mood, you can always find the perfect one.

“I love a solid Old Fashioned, and they seem to be making a comeback with flavours added for a unique touch.

“Don’t miss our Cocktail events running across the country throughout the year for the best of the best options to try.”

Take a look at our pick of the best UK cocktail bars (and no London venues to be scene) to try this year…

This cocktail bar is a highlight of the Highlands with the best tapas in town, and dogs are welcome too.

Don’t miss their electric 1920s-style décor, neon accents, and their very own throne for those Insta-worthy shots.

Boasting over 10 years of experience in the industry, don’t miss a Jimmy’s Passion or try a special option from their dedicated Martini menu.

If your setting is as important as your cocktail, then this seaside location is bang on.

This cute vibrant bar is set a stone’s throw away from the water in St Andrews, home to golf, and the infamous 18th hole at the Old Course.

The venue’s crafted cocktails are divine, and the menu regularly changes to keep things fresh and ahead of the trends. One thing is guaranteed, elevated and modern flavours and designs to tantalise your tastebuds.

They also specialise in fresh seafood, and their popular lobster roll shack has fans flocking over the warmer months.

The Vampire Rabbit, Newcastle

Local legend has it that the fanged beastie once attacked grave robbers and sucked their blood. Others say it was meant to be a hare and the rest is history.

Don’t miss the new underground bar and piano lounge here on a Friday and Saturday. The Rabbit Hole is hidden within the atmospheric vaults and strong rooms of the historic building and promises an immersive experience.

In moody shades of dusty pink and gold, expect exquisite cocktails by bartender Kyle Elwis.

And if you want to see The Vampire Rabbit, its stone sculpture is perched above the rear door of the Cathedral Buildings on Dean Street, facing St Nicholas Cathedral in the city centre.

Expect shades of cream and chocolate browns, the vibes wouldn’t be out if place in a Greek taverna in the sunshine.

They offer the most beautiful selection of tequilas and tequila-based cocktails.
