The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) is today launching the 35cl Wham Bam! festive dram, alongside a Society branded long-stem tasting glass.
From distillery 78, the bottling is an 11-year-old first fill Spanish oak oloroso hogshead, with a deep and rich nose of pickled walnuts, Maderia cake, aged balsamic and plum wine. On the palate it shows leathery notes and damp, earthy qualities as well as some medicinal undercurrents. Reduction brings out warming peppery notes, crystalised ginger and cinnamon, with a finish reminiscent of a mulled tonic wine.
The expression, bottled at 35cl rather than the standard 70cl, was matured in an ex-bourbon hogshead for five years before being transferred to a first fill Spanish oak oloroso hogshead. Following SMWS tradition, Wham Bam! festive dram is cask strength at 58% abv.
Euan Campbell, Head of Whisky Creation at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, said: “This is a cracker of a dram, full of rich and warming notes making it fit for the Christmas toast and with a smaller bottle designed to be the perfect stocking filler for the whisky lover in your life.
“The Society is all about the flavour-first approach, and Wham Bam! festive dram packs huge complexity of flavour into the miniature bottle – we can’t wait for people to try it!”
SMWS has also recently launched its Winter Series of four limited-edition single malt whiskies, each inspired by a defining moment from October to January, and will release individual bottles each month through the winter season.
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is an international whisky club known for its unique approach to single cask whiskies, providing limited edition bottlings to its members. Founded in 1983, the SMWS now has more than 40,000 members worldwide, with branches in over 20 countries including the UK, the United States, Australia and several across Europe and Asia.
