Aberdeenshire’s best-known food and drink brands will come together at this year’s Royal Highland Show as a series of exclusive new collaboration flavours make their debut.

Marking the regions featured role at this year’s Royal Highland Show, taking place from 18-21 June, Mackie’s of Scotland is celebrating four decades of success by teaming up with local brands to bring exclusive ice cream flavours to the event.

The special show flavours offer a glimpse of the next chapter for the family-owned business as it continues to invest in innovation and sustainability.

Kirstin Mackie, Development Director at Mackie’s of Scotland, said: “Few places in Scotland can match Aberdeenshire’s food and drink heritage and these flavours are a celebration of the producers, ingredients and businesses that have helped put the region on the map.

“Bringing together so many local producers is a fantastic way to showcase the creativity and quality that exists across Aberdeenshire’s food and drink sector.

“We are always learning from our development work and it is brilliant to see how much people enjoy these unique flavours.”

Visitors will be able to sample a range of one-off creations developed with local partners, including a bold Chocolate, Cherry, Chilli & Black Pudding flavour featuring Speyside Specialities.

The line-up also includes Buttery & Jam, created using butteries from Inverurie baker JG Ross, alongside a refreshing Rhubarb & Lemonade Sorbet developed with Fraserburgh-based Summerhouse Drinks.

Millionaire Shortbread made with Dean’s of Huntly and Mackie’s chocolate, an Oats, Honey & Yoghurt flavour combining ingredients from Rora Dairy, Oat Co., Bakery Lane and the Aberdeen & District Beekeepers Association, and a rich Caramel Latte infused with Bennachie Coffee complete the Aberdeenshire-inspired range.

Each flavour has been designed to showcase ingredients and products that are synonymous with the north-east, highlighting the diversity of a food and drink sector that ranges from family farms and artisan producers to internationally recognised Scottish brands.

The collaborations also demonstrate the strength of relationships across the region’s food and drink industry, bringing together businesses with shared values around quality, provenance and innovation.

Visitors who purchase from the Mackie’s stand will be invited to take a photo with their scoop and share it on social media using the hashtag #40YearsOfMackies. Everyone who takes part will be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a 40-year supply of Mackie’s ice cream.

While developed exclusively for this year’s Royal Highland Show, the creations continue a long-standing tradition of experimentation and product development that has seen Mackie’s introduce a range of successful collaboration products over the years.

Kirstin added: “One of the things that has helped us grow over the past 40 years is a willingness to try new ideas and work with other great Scottish brands.

“These collaborations allow us to showcase fantastic local ingredients in a different way, while giving visitors something unique to enjoy at the show. They are also a great opportunity to learn, experiment and explore new flavours for the future.”

Celebrating four decades of family-owned success, Mackie’s has grown from a small Aberdeenshire farm into one of the UK’s best-known ice cream brands while remaining firmly rooted in the local community.

As a family business, its values of trust, care and community have been at the heart of Mackie’s success, and it remains proud of its team, community and farming roots.
