Aberdeenshire gin company scoops top award

ABERDEENSHIRE based The Teasmith Spirit Company has picked up a top prize in the North East Scotland Food & Drink Awards 2020.

Husband and wife team, Nick & Emma Smalley, won Best Distilled Product for their Broich Single Estate Gin.

Itā€™s the worldā€™s first gin to be distilled with Scottish tea, using the leaves of tea plants grown and nurtured in Perthshire.

The awards ceremony was streamed online.

Mr Smalley said: ā€œWe are absolutely delighted to receive the award which comes at an especially challenging time for business.  

ā€œThe opportunity to make the worldā€™s first gin with Scottish grown tea couldnā€™t be missed and we really wanted to be the first to do it.ā€  

The Teasmith team were also finalists in the category for Best Young Business.
