Alan Leslie, Buying Director at Aldi Scotland, shares his top picks for making the most of the sunshine this bank holiday weekend.

After a wet and windy first half of the year, Scotland’s long-awaited summer has landed with temperatures expected to reach above 20°C this bank holiday weekend, and Aldi Scotland is bracing for a rush on its summer seasonal range.

Sales data from July 2025 shows the last prolonged spell of hot weather sent demand surging. Last year, Aldi’s Fresh Meat Summer Seasonal BBQ lines rose 60% during the week of the heatwave compared to the week prior, while ice cream sales peaked at 65%. Burger buns and hot dog rolls were also in hot demand, climbing 60% as Scots dustedoff their BBQs, and beer and cider saw a 34% uplift.

With the Met Office forecasting another scorcher, shoppers are being urged to get to stores quickly to avoid missing out on their favourite items. To help them source the best deals, Aldi Scotland Buying Director AlanLeslie has shared the summer buys worth adding to your basket, from locally sourced Scottish staples to seasonal favourites.
