Leading UK hospitality group, Cairn Hotel Group, has secured a further wave of Green Tourism accreditations following another year of sustained environmental and community-focused progress across its portfolio.

Building on a suite of gold and silver award wins in 2025, Cairn Hotel Group, which owns and operates a diverse portfolio of hotels, restaurants and bars, has now achieved 28 Green Tourism accreditations, including 12 gold and 16 silver accreditations.

Assessed by a panel of experts, the Green Tourism certification recognises travel and hospitality businesses that demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices. Businesses that meet the required criteria are then awarded bronze, silver or gold accreditation.

Following achieving a score of 80% or more for their sustainability practices, four new gold accreditations have been awarded to Holiday Inn Aberdeen WestHoliday Inn Express Aberdeen City CentreRedworth Hall and Hotel Indigo London – Kensington.

The new awards build on the group’s previous success last year, with 8 hotels in the group maintaining their gold awards including Courtyard By Marriot Glasgow Airport, Crowne Plaza Gerrards Cross, Elmbank York, Holiday Inn Jesmond (including their second gold award for green meetings), DoubleTree By Hilton Majestic Harrogate Hotel & Spa, Hotel Indigo Edinburgh Princes Street, and DoubleTree By Hilton Newcastle Airport.

Silver award winners across the group include Royal Station Hotel Newcastle, Stoke Place, Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre and Stirling Highland Hotel, amongst others, taking the total number of silver accreditations to 16.

The certifications have been awarded following environmental initiatives undertaken in 2025 to enhance the wellbeing of guests, employees and local communities.

Across the group, hotels have continued to invest in greener operations, strengthen local charity partnerships and introduce practical measures to reduce environmental impact. At Holiday Inn Aberdeen West, initiatives included supporting Cash for Kids, SensationALL, Children in Need and Comic Relief alongside the introduction of reuse schemes for lost property that have benefitted local schools and fundraisers.

Similarly, at Redworth Hall, the team has several charity partnerships including Charity Escapes, whereby 5% of bar takings from charity events are donated to support local causes. The hotel has also made significant strides in energy management, with detailed monitoring of energy usage, participation in biomass-related initiatives and support for neighbouring properties through supplying energy from its main infrastructure.

The initiatives form part of a wider group strategy supported by dedicated Green Champions at each site, who oversee sustainability targets and ensure continuous improvement.

Tina O’Hara, Commercial Director at Cairn Hotel Group, commented: “Building on last year’s success, these accreditations are a clear indication of the progress we’re making as a group. This kind of dedication and growth doesn’t happen by chance, it reflects the focus, ownership and daily efforts of our team across the business.

“Now, just three years into our Green Tourism journey, these results show the progress we’re making and the momentum we’re continuing to build. This isn’t about one-off results or a tick box exercise, it’s about embedding practices that become part of how we operate, and that stay with us for the long term.”
