Glasgow-based Pie Sports expands production ahead of summer football demand
A Scottish pie maker that once served football fans from stadium kiosks is now celebrating a major retail success, as shoppers across Scotland snap up tens of thousands of its products in Aldi stores.
Just two years ago, Glasgow-based Pie Sports, part of Pars Foods Group, was best known for supplying premium pies to football clubs including St Mirren, Partick Thistle and St Johnstone.
But after catching the attention of Aldi Scotland’s buying team, the business made the leap into retail and hasn’t looked back.
Launched as a Specialbuy during the 2024 Euros, Pie Sports’ debut range proved an instant hit, with 25,000 pies selling out in just four days.
The premium pie supplier is now a firm favourite of Aldi shoppers across the country, appearing on shelves during core occasions such as Christmas and Burns Day.
During this year’s British Pie Week, demand reached new heights, with 70,000 pies sold in just seven days across Aldi Scotland stores.
Its unique recipes combine traditional pastry-making with bold, modern flavours, including Meatball Marinara, Balmoral Chicken, and Salt & Chilli Chicken – all of which are made at its Glasgow bakery.

To meet growing demand ahead of a summer of football, Pie Sports is now moving into a larger production facility, marking a major milestone in its growth journey.
Brian Sarafilovic, Managing Director Pie Sports, said: “Our family business has been baking since 1952, and traditionally crafted pies and pastries for schools, colleges, events and sports stadiums.
“Retail wasn’t something we were focused on, but when Aldi came knocking, we knew it was something we had to explore. Our first run of kebab pies during the Euros 24 exceeded our wildest expectations. It turns out the Scots really love our pies, and the rest – they say – is history.
“Quality is of the utmost importance to us. Every pie is made onsite at our bakery in Glasgow, from the pastry to the fillings, and the sauce, we do it ourselves, using fresh ingredients. Indeed, it is this commitment to quality Scottish food and drink that aligns us so well with Aldi.
“We’re currently working with the retailer on an exciting new range ahead of the World Cup. Pies have always been synonymous with football in Scotland, and we’re expecting a lot of hungry Scots to be stocking up to watch these historic games at home. Who knows, we might even need to put on an extra run, if by some miracle we make it out of the group stages.”
Alan Leslie, Buying Director at Aldi Scotland said: “Pie Sports is one of our great success stories of recent years. With decades worth of baking experience, they are true experts in the craft of pie making. We have an incredibly collaborative relationship with their team, many of whom have been with the company for generations. The response from shoppers has been phenomenal.
