A HIGHLAND bakery chain hopes to raise a five-figure sum to support those in need in Ukraine.

Popular bakery Harry Gow hopes to raise vital funds by asking customers to round up their order, or donate any spare change, in its shops across the Highlands and Moray – with the bakery committed to matching public donations up to £5,000.

All funds raised will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which is providing humanitarian aid to people affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Director Fraser Gow said: “Community is important to us at Harry Gow – here in the Highlands and Moray, and also in a global sense. We are truly saddened by the scenes unfolding in Ukraine, and are pleased to be able to play a small part in making it easy for Highland and Moray residents to make a donation and make a difference.”

Around 18 million people are expected to be affected by the escalating conflict in Ukraine. DEC charities and their local partners in Ukraine and neighbouring countries are providing food, water, shelter and medical assistance to those affected by the conflict.

The charity says that:

  • £30 could provide essential hygiene supplies for three people for one month
  • £50 could provide blankets for four families
  • £100 could provide emergency food for two families for one month.

Harry Gow is a popular bakery with 17 stores spread across Inverness, the Highlands and Moray. Donations can be made in any of the brand’s premises.
