Much-loved Italian restaurant, Il Pavone in Princes Square celebrates thirty years in the city by bringing back classic dishes from their first-ever menu from 1991.
The iconic restaurant was one of the first restaurants in Princes Square and thanks to the love of their customers are still one of the centre’s most popular eateries.
Marking their thirtieth anniversary, the restaurant is taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane and bringing back some of their incredible dishes that caused quite a stir thirty years ago. Over the next four weeks, guests can enjoy a show-stopping Gamberi Tropicali – served in a carved out pineapple filled with wild-caught Icelandic prawns in a classic Marie Rose sauce and pineapple chunks. Or Cornetto di Salmone –
Scottish smoked salmon wraps with prawns in a lemon and chive mayonnaise.
You can also try one of their most popular pasta dishes from the 90s – Spaghetti Di Mare Al Forno, featuring traditional Italian spaghetti tossed in a tomato sugo with jumbo king prawns, delicious baby clams, garlic, white wine, olive oil and fresh chillies, which is then wrapped and oven-baked to lock in extra flavour. Seafood fans will adore the Branzino Al Forna – oven-baked sea bass fillets with wild-caught Icelandic prawns, courgettes, carrots, potatoes and garlic butter sauce.
Mariangela, who set up Il Pavone thirty years ago with husband Guerino Marini and brother Marco Di Meo said:
“I still remember the day we opened Il Pavone and I can’t quite believe it’s been 30 years since we first opened the doors back in July of 1991.
“It’s been an incredible ride filled with unforgettable memories. We have made some lifelong friends, seen toddlers playing in the famous circle in Princess Square grow into adults, had staff who have met their husbands and wives in the restaurant, laughed loads and had more good times than we can mention. We’ve even been lucky enough to be a regular spot for some famous faces over the years!
“To us, Il Pavone has meant more to us than just a place to work, it’s been our livelihood over two generations and we are truly honoured to have been serving the people of Glasgow the finest Italian food for the past thirty years.
“Words can not describe the gratitude we feel to each and every customer and staff member who have walked through our doors, and we hope to be doing it for thirty more. The last year and a half has been tough, but we’re still here thanks to our customers. Grazie di cuore!”
The restaurant is also planning to host birthday competitions for guests over the next few weeks. Simply head to their social media – @ilpavoneglasgow to enter.
