Oban Distillery has launched its latest distillery-exclusive release, Little Curiosities, a whisky that brings the spirit of the seaside town to life through both flavour and design.

The beautifully illustrated bottle acts as a visual tribute to Oban’s rich heritage, featuring a series of symbols and objects connected to the town’s history, people and coastal identity. More than just a striking design, the artwork doubles as a treasure map, forming the basis of an interactive scavenger hunt set to engage visitors throughout the summer and beyond.

Launching on 11 July to coincide with the arrival of the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race (10–19 July), the distillery is inviting guests to explore Oban in search of ten hidden icons depicted on the bottle. Participants can collect a map from the distillery and set off across the town, uncovering landmarks and references ranging from the iconic McCaig’s Tower to nods to the distillery’s maritime roots, including its historic 1794 sign.

Those who successfully locate all ten items will be rewarded with a complimentary Oban memento, adding an extra layer of discovery to the whisky experience. The initiative runs from July through to October, offering both locals and tourists a unique way to connect with the town.

The whisky itself reflects Oban’s coastal character. Finished in rum casks, Little Curiosities delivers creamy tropical notes balanced by hints of sea salt and black pepper, culminating in a long, warming finish. Bottled at 57.5% ABV, the release captures both the vibrancy of summer and the distillery’s signature maritime influence.

Emma Watson, Brand Home Manager at Oban Distillery, said: “The distillery’s history is deeply connected to the town. We were established in 1794 so are a core part of the local history. Our latest distillery exclusive, Little Curiosities, is a great way to remember and share the tales and features which make our hometown so unique. Recently retired Distillery Manager Ronnie Whiteford has also signed the bottle as a nice nod to his time at Oban.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming people from Oban, tourists, and those here for the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race into the distillery as they set off to explore this small and fascinating part of the world.”

To mark the Clipper race’s presence in Oban, the distillery is also offering the ObanX Clipper Round the World: Wind, Waves and Whisky Experience. This full-day experience combines hands-on sailing alongside crew and distillery team members with a guided distillery tour and tasting of rare cask whisky.

The limited-edition Little Curiosities bottling is available exclusively from the Oban Distillery retail shop, priced at £220. A commemorative whisky glass is also available to purchase alongside the release.

Visitors to the distillery can enjoy a range of experiences year-round, including tastings, tours, cocktails and non-alcoholic options, all set against the backdrop of one of Scotland’s smallest and most historic distilleries.
