SANO Pizza, known for its high-quality Neapolitan-style sourdough pizza at affordable prices, has recently inaugurated its second restaurant in Glasgow.

Located in Merchant City, this establishment is the company’s fifth and largest venue.

The newly opened restaurant, previously a bar, boasts double the size of its Finnieston counterpart, accommodating 150 seats.

SANO continues to serve its signature menu, with dough crafted on-site daily using just four ingredients: flour, water, salt, and yeast.

The sourdough undergoes a minimum 48-hour fermentation process to achieve a light and chewy base.

Each pizza is hand-stretched and adorned with ingredients sourced from Italy, including spicy salami from Calabria, mozzarella di bufala, Fiammante tomatoes, and the finest ’00’ flour, regarded as the gold standard for Neapolitan pizza.

Earlier this year, one of SANO’s pizzaiolos, Gabriele Reina, showcased his expertise at the World Pizza Championship, securing fourth place.

This prestigious event attracts pizza chefs from around the globe to exhibit their skills and creativity. Furthermore, SANO was recently recognised as the top pizza establishment in Scotland in a distinguished UK-wide review of pizzerias for its Finnieston location, while its Dublin and Cork restaurants frequently rank as the most ordered pizzas through the delivery service Deliveroo.

SANO was founded by twin brothers Raymond and Tony MacHugh, who were inspired to bring the flavours of Naples to Glasgow following a transformative visit to the Italian city.

Their dedication to authenticity is evident in every facet of SANO Pizza, from the ingredients to the Moretti ovens, which cook pizzas at 450 degrees in 90 seconds, and the interior design inspired by the street art and graffiti of Naples.

Co-owner Raymond MacHugh said: “Merchant City is an exciting place to be right now and we jumped at the chance to open our second Glasgow venue here. At SANO, you can pop in for a quick bite before heading home or for a proper night out.

“My brother and I have drawn on our experience running Dukes Bar in Glasgow to create a great selection of cocktails for SANO as well as serving high-quality draft and bottled beers. Our new space is perfect for everyone from young parents and date nights to your office night out and we’re committed to providing a welcoming and fun atmosphere for everyone.”
