The Glendronach is marking its 200th anniversary with the launch of The Glendronach Boynsmill House Edition, a 14-year-old limited-edition single malt inspired by the historic home of founder James Allardice.
Founded in 1826 on the Boynsmill Estate in the Scottish Highlands, The Glendronach was established by Allardice with a vision to combine the robust character of Highland spirit with the influence of Spanish sherry casks. Two centuries on, the distillery is celebrating that legacy through a release which draws on both its sherried house style and the entertaining traditions associated with Boynsmill House.
Allardice was known for welcoming distinguished guests to his home, where his charisma and wit became part of the distillery’s early story. The new expression is intended as a tribute to those gatherings, with a cask combination designed to reflect the wines and hospitality said to have characterised the estate.
The Glendronach Boynsmill House Edition has been matured for 14 years in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, the style for which the Highland distillery is known. Master Blender Dr Rachel Barrie has also introduced a selected number of Claret red wine casks, adding another layer to the whisky’s profile.
The distillery said the use of Claret casks brings red berry fruit and added complexity, complementing The Glendronach’s rich and robust character while offering a new interpretation of its established style.
Dr Barrie said: “Created to mark The Glendronach’s 200th anniversary, Boynsmill House Edition captures the timeless charm of our Highland spirit and sherry cask mastery.
“In this expression, I find the character that has long made The Glendronach so distinctive: plush ripe malt, Highland toffee, bramble and raisin layered with subtle notes of stone fruit and plum, leading to a mellow, velvety finish.
“It is a richly rewarding whisky that honours the enduring character of the Valley of the Brambles while celebrating a remarkable moment in our history.”

Alongside the new release, The Glendronach has restored Boynsmill House as part of its bicentennial activity. The historic residence, which is associated with Allardice securing Scotland’s second-ever whisky licence, has been sensitively transformed and will open for invitation-only experiences.
Visitors will be able to explore the place where the distillery’s story began, adding Boynsmill House to The Glendronach’s wider collection of immersive whisky experiences.
The Glendronach Boynsmill House Edition is available from 1 September 2026 through The Whisky Shop, with a recommended retail price of £90.
