The coveted Scottish Street Food Awards will be parking up at Scotland’s original Street Food Market, The Pitt, from 20-22 June. 2023 was the best year ever for street food in Scotland with traders winning big at the British and the European Street Food Awards – this year’s finalists will no doubt be hoping to regain that glory for Scotland.

Ten finalists, from all over the country, will be hoping to impress an all-star panel that has previously included comedy performer Jay McAllister, Conor Toomey, Head Chef at the Michelin-starred Condita, and Gaby Soutar, food editor of The Scotsman. But they’ll also be trying to win the public vote for the People’s Choice because both will be going through to the finals of the 2025 British Street Food Awards in September.

The Pitt which recently reopened on the Granton Promenade with a permanent Street Food Market, large venue space, enterprise and community hub, is already permanent home to two previous winners – Choola and The Buffalo Truck – so will be hoping to find the next big, delicious dish!

Previous SSFA finalists also included Pitt resident, Lazeez, as well as Planet G food, Wanderers Kneeded, Freds Backyard Barbecue and Cala Cala

Hal Prescott, Chief Executive of The Pitt said, “We’re so excited to have the SSFA back at The Pitt. The awards are so important to the Street Food sector and open up huge opportunities for all the finalist, and especially those who go on to win and compete in the British finals.

“We have an enviable location here overlooking the Firth of Forth so we’ll be making the most of it, with the 10 finalist set up along the prom. We’ll also have an action packed programme across the rest of the site and venue so look forward to bumper weekend and to discovering something new and delicious.”

A British Street Food Award is a prize that genuinely changes lives. Wingmans, big winners at the BSFA and the ESFA in 2017, recently opened up their second ‘proper’ restaurant – in Hoxton. MEATliquor, who won at the Awards back in 2009 – now have nine restaurants. Bao have five. BSFA winners go places. Literally. This year the BSFA champion will be going to Germany to compete in the grand final of the 2025 European Street Food Awards in Munich.

Street Food Ventures – the company behind the Awards in Britain – are running Awards in 16 European countries this summer, and will find the first American champ at the USA Street Food Awards in the Autumn. “We don’t want a fixed starter-main course-dessert menu any more” says Richard Johnson, founder of the company.  “We want a bit of this and a bit of that. Flirty, low-commitment dining. Plus it’s inclusive. And in a world like ours, that’s a positive message right now.”
