A cult Buckfast-inspired beer is making a comeback this January after fans demanded its return across Reddit.
Edinburgh sour specialists Vault City Brewing have confirmed that Buckie Bomb is back by popular demand, following a surge of online chatter calling for the beer’s revival.
Inspired by the legendary Buckie Bomb cocktail, made by mixing Buckfast Tonic Wine with Irn-Bru, the new release offers a playful nod to one of Scotland’s most recognisable flavour combinations with Vault City’s signature sour base.
Its return comes at a time of unprecedented growth for Scottish food and drink products, which has seen exports more than double over the past decade and continues to perform as one of the strongest areas of the Scottish economy.
The 7.8% sour delivers tangy Buckie vibes with juicy blackberries, subtle caffeine notes and layers of sweet, dark stewed fruits, citrus and bubble-gum.
The new release also features eye-catching label artwork by Scottish illustrator Stuart Allan (Stallan_), who reimagined the cult can after the success of the original launch.
Steven Smith Hay, co-founder of Vault City Brewing, said: “Buckie is one of those beers that people never stopped talking about. We kept seeing it pop up on Reddit and in our DMs, with folk asking when it was coming back.
“After the success of the original release and the sheer volume of people asking about it, it felt like the right time to bring it back. Buckie Bomb has become a bit of a talking point, and that response comes from people recognising something familiar, reimagined in a playful way. It’s our sour take on a cultural icon, and people really connect with that.”
To mark the launch, Vault City has also teamed up with Thiccc Sauce to release a limited-edition Buckie BBQ glaze, infused with familiar Buckie-style flavours, expanding the release beyond beer into food and gifting.
