Aberdeen Coffee and Cake Week is already proving a hit across the city, as thousands of locals turn out to enjoy a £5 coffee and cake deal at more than 20 participating independent cafés.

Running from 3 to 9 November 2025, the first-of-its-kind event has been organised by Nadine Forbes, founder of Aberdeenshire Explorers, who said she has been overwhelmed by the level of community support.

“It’s exceeded my expectations to see just how much people are willing to support local businesses,” said Nadine. “It’s been fantastic to hear that many of the cafés involved have already welcomed a high number of new visitors in just the first two days. The atmosphere has been incredible — people are out exploring, discovering new favourites, and really getting behind Aberdeen’s independents.”

Designed to spotlight small and family-run venues, Aberdeen Coffee and Cake Week invites customers to enjoy a handpicked selection of the city’s best spots for coffee, cake and conversation, each offering an exclusive £5 deal (or £6 at Books and Beans).

Venue spotlight: Filo Coffee House

Among the participating cafés, Filo Coffee House on John Street has quickly become a standout example of community spirit and social impact.

“Community is one of our core values,” said Matthaeus Aagaard, Coffeehouse Manager at Filo. “The name Filo actually means ‘thread’ — a symbol of connection — and we aim to weave those threads between people in Aberdeen. We’re delighted to take part in Coffee and Cake Week because it shares that same purpose of bringing people together.”

Since opening, Filo has offered a “Pay It Forward” coffee scheme, encouraging customers to buy a drink in advance for someone in need. “We’ve had more than 760 coffees paid forward so far,” Matthaeus explained. “That generosity shows how community-focused Aberdeen really is. We’ve already noticed increased footfall and new faces this week thanks to the event and its online buzz — it’s been brilliant.”

Filo’s commitment to quality and inclusion runs deep. The café partners with Transform Food, a social enterprise providing training and employment pathways for individuals facing barriers to work, including those reintegrating from HMP Grampian and refugees seeking new opportunities.

“We see hospitality as a vehicle for positive change,” said Scott Calder, Catering Manager at Transform Food. “It’s not just about great food and service, it’s about empowering people, building skills and transforming lives.”

Supporting local, one slice at a time

The week has been championed by local ambassadors including @aberdeenshire_explorers, @ayo.maclennan, @scoteatsalot, @bites__with__brit_, and @tartanpaws_.

Following its success, organisers have confirmed that Aberdeenshire Coffee and Cake Week will return in March 2026, with Aberdeen Coffee and Cake Week set to make its third appearance in November 2026.
