Two of Scotland’s most stylish new dining spots are putting fresh flair on the classic Sunday roast, bringing comfort and craftsmanship together in every serving.
In the West End of Glasgow, The Clarence has become a neighbourhood favourite since opening its doors on Hyndland Road in January 2025. Each Sunday, it serves a refined take on the roast – two courses for £30 or three for £37. Diners can choose from Roasted Chateaubriand of Aberdeen Angus beef, glazed beef short-rib, or roast monkfish tail, all accompanied by traditional trimmings. It’s a blend of hearty cooking and polished hospitality, perfect for a long, lazy afternoon. Bookings can be made online.

Across in Edinburgh’s Bristo Square, The Gilded Saloon – opened in July 2025 – is drawing diners with an elegant yet unpretentious roast devised by Executive Chef Tomás Gormley. Priced at £22 per person, the plate brings together roast beef rump cap, golden Yorkshire puddings, buttered savoy cabbage, and a rich beef gravy, with a vegetarian option also available. Served every Sunday from midday until 4pm, it’s a modern homage to a timeless favourite. Reservations can be made here.
Whether west or east, these two kitchens show that the Sunday roast continues to evolve, keeping its soulful warmth while embracing a little modern finesse.
