One of Edinburgh’s most iconic rooftop bars has reponed to the public following a major £500,000 makeover.
Since opening its doors in 2019, Cold Town House in the Grassmarket has established itself as one of the capital’s most popular rooftop bar experiences with a stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.
The venue has now been transformed and elevated even further with a state-of-the-art retractable roof, new bar with three service stations, four new gondolas to seat up to four guests each, two water vapour fireplaces, and an extended terrace layout.
The main architectural feature of the venue is retractable transparent roof, allowing up to 120 guests to enjoy social gatherings with a castle view in all weathers. The specially engineered structure is UV-protected, providing natural daylight, whilst offering shelter from wind and rain.
The new rooftop bar at Cold Town House is now the ultimate alfresco destination in the heart of the Grassmarket during the warmer spring and summer months.
The new spring menu includes the famous Cold Town Neapolitan Pizza menu, as well as house baked ciabattas made with Cold Town House pizza dough. People with a sweet tooth can also look forward to the new peanut butter brookie dessert.
This summer it is all about Sarti Spritz and a refreshing grapefruit pint serve of Lonkero on the roof terrace! Cold Town Beer will continue to be available on tap.

Guests also have the choice to order in a variety of ways, including table service with a member of the Cold Town House team, via a QR code app or at the bar.
Nikk Stevens, general manager at Cold Town House, said:
“We’ve had a fantastic response to our exciting new makeover at Cold Town House and have already welcomed well over 2,000 guests since reopening at Easter.
“With work now complete, we’re now able to guarantee a fabulous time to get together with friends and family with incredible views of Edinburgh Castle whatever the weather, come rain or shine.
“We’re also looking forward to hosting the Grassmarket Beer Festival at Cold Town House on Saturday 9th May in the first of our big spring and summer events for 2026.”
Advance bookings are recommended to ensure guests are guaranteed a space in the new Cold Town House rooftop bar. Walk-ins are also welcomed on a first come, first served basis.
