The Shaker opens on Shandwick Place with cocktails and DJs.

Encore Bars has launched its newest Edinburgh establishment, The Shaker, located at 9 Shandwick Place in the city’s West End. The new party bar commenced operations on Saturday 5 September, positioning itself as a late-night destination focused on cocktails, DJs, and party anthems.

The Shaker’s entertainment is centred on DJs, with resident DJs performing every Friday and Saturday.

The music selection spans chart favourites, house singalongs, R&B, hip hop, and crowd-pleasing party anthems, without featuring live music or guitars. The venue’s ambiance is enhanced by disco balls, neon lighting, and distinctive interiors, with the party continuing until 3 am.

Cocktails are integral to The Shaker experience, offered through a dedicated menu that utilises premium brands. An extensive array of shooters is also available, with an emphasis on crafting well-made drinks while maintaining the bar’s energetic atmosphere designed for dancing.

The venue aims for an accessible approach to Edinburgh’s nightlife, providing free entry, no specific dress code, and a relaxed door policy. Booths can be booked free of charge, with no minimum spend or packages required, making the venue suitable for various occasions from after-work drinks to weekend celebrations.

The Shaker is designed to appeal to a broad audience, including Edinburgh’s after-work crowd, students, and groups celebrating birthdays or weekend get-togethers.

The focus is on a welcoming, “come-as-you-are” atmosphere, prioritising attitude over age.

Opening hours begin earlier in the week, with the venue opening at 7 pm midweek. On Fridays, doors open from 5 pm, and on Saturdays, from 3 pm, allowing guests to start their evening celebrations earlier and stay until late.

Gavin Currie, Director of Operations, commented on the opening: “We’re thrilled to finally open the doors at Shaker. Opening weekend exceeded everything we’d hoped for.

The room was full, the music was spot on, and the atmosphere was exactly what we set out to create. The feedback from guests has been fantastic and bookings are already flying in for the weeks ahead. We can’t wait to see where the next few months take us.”

The Shaker is located at 9 Shandwick Place, Edinburgh, EH2 4RG.
