Highland seaweed snack brand SHORE has joined the global B Corp movement after its parent company Aquascot achieved certification recognising its social and environmental standards.

The certification covers Aquascot and its family of brands, including SHORE, and recognises their performance, accountability and transparency.

Founded in 2020 and based in Alness, SHORE produces plant-based Seaweed Chips using seaweed hand-harvested from UK coastlines.

The milestone comes as the brand reports growth of more than 30% in 2026, becoming Scotland’s third-largest healthy bagged snack brand and exceeding £1 million in UK retail sales.

Keith Paterson, founder and business unit head of SHORE, said: “Our mission is to make seaweed a leading food of the future, one that is kind to the planet, supports local communities and provides a unique source of plant-based nutrition.

“Becoming part of the BCorp community of businesses that have been recognised to meet higher social and environmental standards is a great validation of our values.

“The SHORE brand is showing that practices that are good for the planet and flavour can go hand in hand. With Great Taste Awards across our entire Seaweed Chips range, we’re proud to demonstrate that doing good and tasting great don’t have to be mutually exclusive.”

SHORE’s seaweed is gathered by trained harvesters working in line with the seasons and tides. The company says the approach allows each species to be collected at peak quality while protecting marine habitats and allowing natural regrowth.

Harvesting avoids the use of heavy machinery and vehicles on the shore, while supporting employment in rural coastal communities.

Seaweed requires no fresh water, fertilisers or feed to grow and absorbs carbon as it matures. SHORE uses its salty, umami-rich flavour to create its snack range.

Every flavour in the company’s Seaweed Chips range received a Great Taste Award in 2026.

Paterson added: “Joining the global B Corp community gives us the opportunity to learn from like-minded businesses while continuing to challenge ourselves to improve our environmental and social impact as we grow.”

SHORE was also named in the NielsenIQ Million Club Class of 2026, which recognised 26 challenger brands that surpassed £1 million in UK retail sales over the previous 12 months. It was the only Scottish brand included in this year’s cohort.

The range is stocked in Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons across Scotland, alongside Selfridges, Booths, Whole Foods Market and independent retailers elsewhere in the UK.

The company has also recently secured a listing with wholesale foodservice distributor Brakes.
