Equipment includes 65 multi-gas detectors for Scottish sites
Dräger has been awarded a six-figure contract by a major Scotch whisky distiller. The agreement covers the supply of fixed and portable gas detection equipment, training, hire, and ongoing service support across multiple distillery sites in Scotland.
The contract includes 65 multi-gas detectors, X-zone area monitors, bump test stations, supporting accessories, and test gas. Each unit is configured to address the specific hazard of ethanol vapour, which forms naturally during fermentation and distillation and can create potentially explosive atmospheres in enclosed spaces.

This new service agreement consolidates both elements under a single maintenance and calibration programme, building on an existing fixed gas detection contract already supported by Dräger. Paul Davidson, UK MGM Marketing Manager at Dräger, stated: “Distilleries present a specific and consistent set of atmospheric hazards which necessitates ensuring that the equipment configuration is right for each individual environment.” He added: “Working with a major distiller to considerably enhance the safety of each of their Scottish sites represents a significant win for Dräger.”
The contract also provides on-site user training for key personnel across the distiller’s estate, covering correct equipment use and site-specific safety factors. Additionally, a hire element is included to support planned shutdowns at any of the sites.
Provision for confined space entry work is also part of the agreement, enabling pre-entry atmospheric checks and continuous monitoring in environments such as tanks and vessels. Proximity of Dräger’s local engineers and responsive technical support was a key factor in the ongoing partnership, allowing quick resolution of urgent requirements.
