That’s the spirit – three international award wins for Scottish distillery

Produced in the Pentland Hills, King's Hill gin was recognised internationally

AN Edinburgh-based distillery is toasting a flurry of national and international awards.

King’s Hill Gin, which is distilled in the Pentland Hills, picked up five highly coveted awards –two at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits competition, one at the China Wine and Spirits Awards, as well as two further national prizes.

Judges at the San Francisco World Spirits competition were impressed with the gin’s elegant bottle, featuring a royal-like diamond jewel effect and blue hue fading from the bottom up, as well as a signature copper coin at the neck, awarding King’s Hill Double Gold for packaging.

Meanwhile, the gin itself, which is handcrafted in a micro-distillery using a blend of twelve finely curated botanicals, earned a silver medal for taste thanks to its distinct flavour profile that is unique to the environment it is produced in.

The handcrafted small batch gin also scooped an additional Gold Medal at the prestigious China Wine and Spirit Awards, as well as two awards domestically, including a Scottish Retail Award and Great British Food and Drink Award.

These latest wins bring the total of awards won by King’s Hill to 11 in just three years – an incredible achievement for the brand, though the team has even bigger ambitions.

Duncan Morrison, Distillery Manager for King’s Hill Gin, said: “We’re over the moon to have won five amazing awards this year – and to see our small batch gin being recognised internationally, competing against some of the world’s biggest brands.

“We founded King’s Hill in 2017 with a simple vision – to create a luxury, tasteful gin using locally-foraged ingredients to reflect the rich history of the area and encapsulate the best Scotland has to offer. A lot of thought went into the design of our bottle too, as we wanted an entirely bespoke look that gin lovers can instantly recognise.

“It’s been an amazing journey so far, and we’re incredibly proud to see both our iconic gin and its bottle being recognised. 11 awards in three years is a fantastic achievement, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for the future. We’re keeping our fingers crossed our product fares just as well in the Gin Masters and World Gin Awards later in the year!”

King’s Hill Gin received three World Gin Awards – one Gold in 2019 as well as one Silver and one Design Gold in 2021 – as well as a 2019 Great Taste Award, 2020 Scottish Gin Award and 2019 ISWC Silver.

King’s Hill Gin is currently available online and in John Lewis stores nationwide from £36 RRP, or in Harvey Nicholls stores in Scotland. To find out more, visit: kingshillgin.com
