Competition invites mixologists and amateurs to create a St Andrews-inspired cocktail for 2027 championship.

Ben Lomond Gin, the Official Gin of The Open, has launched its search for the Official Serve of The Open, inviting professional mixologists and bartenders, as well as amateur cocktail makers, to create a Ben Lomond Scottish Gin-based cocktail. The winning serve will be featured at The 155th Open in St Andrews in summer 2027. Public entries for the competition close on Monday 12 October, with a qualifying event scheduled for Luss Distillery on 3 November 2026.

This popular competition returns for its fourth run ahead of The Open taking place at the Home of Golf in 2027. Entrants are challenged to create a cocktail inspired by the St Andrews course, whether through its famous links, coastline, golfing heritage, local community or their own connection to the place.

The winning serve will earn a place on the drinks menu at the golf championship, where it will be sampled by thousands of golf fans at the Ben Lomond Gin Garden, the Loch Lomond Whiskies bar, and selected stands onsite.

The competition follows the success of the 2026 winning serve, the Solstice Sling, which was created by Branford Edgar of Kelvingrove Café in Glasgow and served to spectators at The 154th Open at Royal Birkdale.

Elsie Cinnamond, Drinks Development Lead at Ben Lomond Gin, commented on the upcoming event, stating: “The return of The Open to St Andrews makes this year’s competition particularly special. We want people to take inspiration from everything that makes the Home of Golf so iconic and translate that into a serve that thousands of golf fans can enjoy next summer.”

Cinnamond added: “Whether you work behind the bar at a golf club, within a golf resort or elsewhere in hospitality, we want to see your creativity and hear the story behind your serve. You don’t need to be an expert mixologist – we’re looking for great flavour, a great story and something that captures the spirit of St Andrews.”

The winner will receive £1,000, a Ben Lomond Gin hamper and two VIP Hospitality tickets to The 155th Open, along with seeing their creation become the Official Serve of The Open. They will also join Ben Lomond Gin at the Championship as a brand ambassador. Entries can be submitted via the Ben Lomond Gin website.
