Scotland’s long awaited return to the FIFA World Cup has inspired a highly distinctive whisky release, with Saltire Rare Malt unveiling just 11 bottles of a 24 year old Ben Nevis Single Malt Scotch distilled in 1998, the last year the national team appeared on football’s biggest stage.

Priced at £350, the limited edition bottling, titled “Ooooohhh, Yes Sir, I Can Boogie!”, pays tribute to Scotland’s starting XI with a release of just 11 bottles. Launching online from 14 June, the expression brings together two pillars of Scottish identity, football and whisky, in a rare collector’s piece.

Matured for 24 years in a refill bourbon hogshead, the single cask Ben Nevis is among the most exclusive releases to date from the Falkland based independent bottler, known for its tightly curated and historically resonant whiskies.

Commenting on the launch, Saltire Rare Malt Co Founder and Director Keith Rennie said: “Scotland’s return to the World Cup is a moment worth celebrating and we’re delighted to mark it with a truly unique bottling. At Saltire Rare Malt, whisky is all about stories, and opportunities like this don’t come around very often. To release a whisky distilled in 1998, the last time Scotland reached the World Cup, feels incredibly special.

“It’s a celebration of Scotland, a celebration of whisky and a celebration of a moment supporters have waited a generation to see. Whether it’s kept as a collector’s item or opened to toast Scotland’s return to football’s biggest stage, we hope it becomes part of a memory that lasts for years to come.”

Founded in Falkland, Fife, Saltire Rare Malt was established by long time friends and collectors Nigel Heywood and Keith Rennie, who have spent more than three decades sourcing fine and rare single malts. The company has built a growing reputation for small batch, single cask releases sourced from some of Scotland’s most revered distilleries.

Working in collaboration with internationally recognised whisky experts Hans and Becky Offringa, known as ‘The Whisky Couple’, the business continues to develop a portfolio aimed at collectors and enthusiasts across the UK and beyond.

Launching just ahead of Father’s Day, the World Cup inspired release is expected to attract both whisky collectors and football fans, offering a distinctive commemorative dram tied to a landmark moment in Scottish sporting history.

The Saltire Rare Malt World Cup Release will be available exclusively online at www.saltireraremalt.com from 14 June.
