TODAY, Heathrow Airport echoed with the sounds of bagpipes as Walker’s Shortbread welcomed passengers heading to Glasgow in a unique Christmas gesture.

In celebration of Walker’s Shortbread’s new festive pop-up at Heathrow Terminal 5, lucky passengers bound for Glasgow on December 21 enjoyed a special serenade from a live bagpiper. This surprise performance marked the launch of the brand’s partnership with World Duty Free.

Walker’s Shortbread, a family-run business, delighted travellers passing through Terminal 5 with highland tunes and complimentary shortbread samples. The festive pop-up experience, running until January 3, offers passengers the chance to indulge in Walker’s iconic Shortbread Fingers and explore the brand’s Prestige Festive Range and Global Travel Range.

Steve McCarney, Commercial Director at Walker’s Shortbread, expressed pride in celebrating Scottish roots: “Scots are known for their hospitality, and what better way to welcome those flying home or visiting for Christmas than with bagpipes and free shortbread.”

To amplify the joy of sharing Walker’s Shortbread worldwide, travellers are encouraged to share their purchases on social media, tagging @walkersshortbread and #walkerssharethejoy for a chance to win a selection of Walker’s Shortbread products.

Heathrow’s Retail Director, Fraser Brown, highlighted the significance of supporting iconic British businesses and welcomed the unique pop-up experience. “We’re looking forward to welcoming a bagpiper at the gate, which is a first of its kind for Heathrow.”

Eve Fifer, Commercial Director for Avolta (World Duty Free’s operator in the UK), emphasised the commitment to delivering unique and immersive experiences. “This striking pop-up and the Scottish welcome from the bagpipers really highlight Walker’s proud Scottish heritage,” she said.

The partnership between Walker’s Shortbread and Heathrow creates a festive atmosphere for travellers, blending Scottish traditions with the joy of the holiday season.
