Duncan Farms, a family-run business in Aberdeenshire, has announced a £7 million expansion of its egg packing facility near Turriff.

This development has doubled both the size of the packing area and the grading and packing capacity, positioning the company for future growth amid rising demand for premium free-range eggs.

In addition to enhancing the packing centre, Duncan Farms is constructing two new free-range laying units within four miles of the expanded facility to meet increased demand.

The company is also partnering with five additional local producers and recruiting at all levels, from entry-level to management.

As part of the expansion, staff facilities are being upgraded with new offices, meeting spaces, and a canteen to improve the work environment.

A key feature of this investment is the installation of an advanced Moba egg grader, which improves quality inspection and grading capacity.

Duncan Farms is the first in Scotland to adopt this technology, highlighting their commitment to innovation in the industry.

This expansion not only strengthens their market position but also supports local economic growth and employment.

Vice- Chairman of Duncan Farms, Rachael Duncan, said: “This is an exciting time for our business as we have the opportunity for significant expansion as part of our continued growth strategy.

“We are experiencing an increase in demand for British free-range eggs, and this is complimented by a key consumer trend where traceability is important.”

“It is a challenging time for family-owned agricultural businesses like ours, but we are committed to our next stage of growth. We are looking forward to working with more Scottish producers and offering them the opportunity to grow with us and our key retail partners.

Duncan Farms retail customers now include Lidl GB, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury’s and Co-op.
