ABERDEENSHIRE’S Meldrum Country House Hotel is the place to be to try an 81-year-old whisky…but it will set you back more than £8,000.

The hotel acquired The Reach by The Macallan to home in its Cave Bar, and is just the second bar in the country to stock the whisky, alongside a venue in Gleneagles.

The spirit has been maturing since the Second World War, with only 288 bottles available worldwide.

“It’s not every day you can put a whisky like this for sale in your Bar so it took a lot of thought and planning,” said Meldrum House managing director Jordan Charles.

“As guests pass by the room where it is displayed, they will be able to see this stunning Macallan masterpiece. Any guest that wants to purchase it is in for a real treat.”
