A family-run Scottish butcher with national and international accolades is backing Partick Thistle Women, bringing a focus on performance nutrition to the club’s top-six campaign.

McCaskie’s of Wemyss Bay, led by Nigel Ovens, has built a reputation as one of Scotland’s most respected independent butchers. The business has secured multiple national titles and industry recognition for its produce, underpinned by a long-standing commitment to quality, traceability and craftsmanship.

Now, that same ethos is being applied in a different arena — supporting a Partick Thistle Women squad competing at the top end of the Scottish Women’s Premier League.

Having secured their place in the top six, the squad is currently navigating the split, facing the strongest teams in the country during the decisive phase of the season. Attention now turns to a high-profile fixture against Glasgow City FC under the lights at Firhill Stadium on Friday 24th April — a significant occasion for the club and a reflection of the continued growth of the women’s game.

Through the new training partnership, McCaskie’s will support the players with a focus on fuelling performance, preparation and recovery — an often overlooked but critical element in semi-professional sport, where athletes balance football alongside careers and other commitments.

Nigel Ovens said:
“As a family business, we’ve always taken pride in doing things the right way — focusing on quality, consistency and hard work.

“When you look at what this group of players are achieving, there’s a real alignment in values. They’re competing at a high level while balancing so much off the pitch, and we’re proud to play a small part in supporting that.

“For us, this is about more than sponsorship. It’s about championing a team that represents progress in the women’s game and showing how something as simple as good, honest food can contribute to performance.”

Caroline Mackie, Chair of Partick Thistle Women, added:
“This is an important stage of the season for us, and every detail matters when it comes to preparation and performance.

“To have the support of a respected Scottish business like McCaskie’s is hugely valuable. It reflects the role that local businesses can play in supporting women’s sport and helping it continue to grow.

“As a semi-professional squad, our players give a huge amount both on and off the pitch, and partnerships like this help ensure they are supported in the right way.”

At a time when many smaller businesses can struggle to have their voices heard, McCaskie’s involvement highlights the positive role independent Scottish companies can play in their communities — using their platform not only to grow their own business, but to support and champion others.

As Partick Thistle Women continue their top-six campaign, the partnership stands as an example of how shared values — quality, consistency and commitment — can translate beyond industry and into meaningful support for sport at a crucial level.
