Norfolk-based artisanal chocolate producer Gnaw has launched a new product line called Mocha Melts, aiming to bridge the gap between coffee and hot chocolate in the UK’s hot beverage market.

This move comes as coffee has firmly established itself as the nation’s preferred hot drink, overtaking tea in 2023.

However, hot chocolate is experiencing a resurgence, particularly during colder months and cosy evenings at home.

Mocha Melts are generously sized cubes of chocolate with gooey centres, designed to transform home-brewed coffee into a luxurious mocha.

Available in three flavours – Salted Caramel, Hazelnut, and Double Chocolate – these products aim to extend Gnaw’s premium chocolate offerings into the gifting and hot beverage aisles.

The introduction of Mocha Melts aligns with several current trends in the hot beverage market. Consumers are increasingly interested in single-origin offerings, product innovation, ethical sourcing, and premium indulgence experiences.

This trend reflects a sophisticated approach to everyday beverages, where quality and provenance matter significantly.

Mike Navarro, a spokesperson for Gnaw, stated, “One of our key priorities over the last 12 months has been to tap into chocolate’s unrivalled versatility.

“By piggybacking off coffee’s everyday appeal, Gnaw is providing the perfect means to add a little luxurious twist to one’s daily brew”.

This product launch comes at a time when the hot chocolate market is experiencing significant growth and innovation.

Recent trends include the popularity of pink and gold hot chocolates, as well as luxurious thick hot chocolate inspired by French traditions.

The UK hot chocolate market alone is worth Ā£132 million, indicating substantial consumer interest in this category.

As the hot beverage landscape continues to evolve, Gnaw’s Mocha Melts represent an innovative approach to meeting consumer demands for both coffee and chocolate indulgence in a single product.
