Landsec has named German Kraft Brewery as the operator of the newly reimagined Model Market at Lewisham Shopping Centre, marking a significant step forward in the ongoing transformation of the town centre.

Set to open in late summer 2026, the revitalised Model Market will build on its 1950s heritage while introducing a modern, community-focused destination designed to attract visitors throughout the day and into the evening. The project forms part of Landsec’s wider strategy to reposition Lewisham as a vibrant hub for food, drink and cultural experiences.

The renewed space will provide a permanent home for a curated mix of independent food vendors, retailers and creative businesses, offering local operators the opportunity to grow and connect with a broader audience.

German Kraft, founded in 2017 at Mercato Metropolitano in Elephant & Castle, will oversee operations across the site. Known for its blend of high-quality brewing and lively hospitality concepts, the company will curate the street food offering and lead programming, creating a destination that transitions from morning coffee and co-working through to dining, events and cultural activity.

Mark Warne, Director of Hospitality and Leisure at Landsec, said: “Model Market has long been an important part of Lewisham’s social fabric, and its highly anticipated return will provide even more reasons to visit the town centre.

“Across our portfolio, we’re seeing growing demand for food-led destinations that bring together independent operators, culture and community. Whether through established concepts such as Trinity Kitchen or the new food hall planned for Buchanan Galleries, these formats play an important role in creating places people choose to visit and spend time in.

“Together with German Kraft, we’re bringing this community-focused approach to Lewisham, creating opportunities for local businesses to grow and reach new audiences.”

The appointment underlines Landsec’s belief that successful town centres must evolve beyond traditional retail, integrating hospitality, culture and community-driven experiences to increase footfall and dwell time.

Felix Bollen, co-founder of German Kraft and MOSAIK, added: “We’re excited to bring Model Market back to life as a next-generation social destination for Lewisham, a place that feels open, dynamic and deeply connected to the local community. We’ll be continuing the community social hub we ran in Elephant & Castle over the last nine years.”

Alongside the return of Model Market, Landsec has continued to strengthen the retail offer at Lewisham Shopping Centre. The company completed 12 leasing deals in 2025, with further momentum into 2026. Recent additions include Sports Direct and Tressly Studios — the UK’s first co-working salon and concept store for textured hair — as well as a major relocation and expansion of Boots.

The reopening of Model Market is expected to play a key role in redefining Lewisham town centre, positioning it as a destination that blends food, culture and community under one roof.
