Set against the backdrop of one of the UK’s most vibrant agricultural regions, the event promises three days of lively conversation, fresh ideas, and shared ambition for the future of farming.

You can also join in with one of three pre-conference farm tours, showcasing innovation, diversification, and sustainable land management in the North East. Highlights include a visit to Duncan Farms, The MacRobert Trust and Mackie’s of Scotland.
Spotlight on Scottish Scholars
A fantastic line-up of Scottish Nuffield Scholars will take the stage to share what they’ve learned from travels and research around the world, including:
- Emma Patterson Taylor explores how farming is perceived by the public, drawing on her background in food, policy and the environment.
Ranald Angus, farming in Caithness, examines how soil-sequestered carbon could become a powerful tool for rural regeneration and climate action. - Aoife Behan, researcher at the University of Edinburgh, delves into how procurement policy can be a lever for sustainable farming and consumption.
- Jock Gibson, a livestock farmer from Forres, shares insights into producing high-quality meat through 100% pasture and forage-based systems.
- Wallace Currie, an agricultural lecturer from Arran, reflects on the power of education in building resilient global food systems, who says:
“It’s been 18 of what will be 24 weeks of travel so far. I’ve been to every continent apart from Antarctica! Whilst writing this in a vineyard in Slovenia, I can’t wait to share everything I’ve learnt along the way with you all in God’s country of Scotland come November!”
They’ll be joined by several other Scholars from across the UK, offering insights into everything from agri-tech to leadership, to regenerative practice.
An Evening to Celebrate
On the evening of Wednesday 19 November, the conference will take a festive turn with the Annual Dinner, a real highlight of the event. Expect a night of great food, local produce, and ceilidh dancing to Scotland’s legendary rock ceilidh band, Bahookie. It’s the perfect chance to unwind, connect, and celebrate the community that makes Nuffield so special.
