Peated whisky fans are in for a treat with the news that The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) is launching Peat Plants II – the second instalment in its premium Creators Collection series featuring four limited-edition peated single malt Scotch whiskies inspired by the raw, untamed landscapes of Scotland’s Western Isles.
Launching on October 10, the Peat Plants II collection features four bottles of peated single malt Scotch whisky with special label designs that dive deeper into the medicinal heart of peated whisky, drawing character from the rugged beauty of islands like Islay and Mull, where the peat is richer in seaweed, lichen and salt air.
The Peat Plants II collection features Tarred and Heathered, a 21-year-old Islay whisky with tropical fruit notes and honey-cured peat-smoked salmon; Ocean Blossom, a 19-year-old Highland expression combining maritime character with barnacle-scraped intensity and steamed samphire notes; Maritime Drift, a 31-year-old Islay bottling that evokes a boat builder’s workshop with smoky pears, butterscotch and honey-glazed lobster; and the 26-year-old Beachside Smokehouse from Islay, which delivers smoked dates, habanero bacon and smoky liquorice root tea.
The full collection will be available on October 10 for £1200, with individual bottles ranging from £135 – £455.
Where the original Peat Plants explored the diverse sensory palate of Scotland’s peatlands, Part II focuses on their most evocative, uncompromising expressions – whiskies that capture the elemental drama of wind-scoured coastlines, rain-lashed moors, and centuries of raw, distinct climate.

Euan Campbell, Head of Whisky Creation at the SMWS, said: “This collection celebrates the powerful and medicinal nature of West Coast peat. We have selected a variety of expressions from Islay along with some similarly robust whisky from the Isle of Mull. These phenol-packed casks cover a spectrum from deeply tropical fruit and smoke through to intense carbolic character. There’s so much flavour diversity to be found in this collection, in both spirit style and cask type. A real celebration of peat.”
The Creators Collection series, which launched last year with the original Peat Plants, is a premium range of releases focusing on unique flavour stories, whisky production techniques and cask maturation, with new instalments released over the coming months.
