Fife farm shop marks 12th year of free festive event

Balgove Larder, a farm shop in Fife, is inviting visitors to gather with friends and family at its annual Christmas Night Market and vintage Car Boot. The event is free to attend and promises festive shopping, food, warming drinks, live music and Christmas cheer.

Now in its 12th year, the market is welcoming back local food and drink producers, independent makers and artisans, alongside what Balgove Larder describes as “a sprinkling of exciting newcomers” bringing their own seasonal offerings. With sustainability central to the business, visitors can also browse The Car Boot, where curated vendors will sell vintage treasures.

A programme of free activities will run through the evening. From 4-6pm, children can take part in a Christmas Card Making Workshop, creating cards to give to someone special. At 6pm, Balgove Larder butchers and a chef will host an informal session, The Christmas Roast: From Butcher’s Block to Table, covering festive centrepieces from traditional turkey to rib of beef, along with flavours, preparation tips, cooking techniques and timings, with time for questions. At 6.30pm, Karma Curry will show ways to turn Christmas leftovers into curries, aimed at making use of Boxing Day leftovers.

The Steak Barn will be the hub of the evening, with a barbecue at its centre and a menu of seasonal food featuring produce from the Balgove Larder Butchery. Visitors can warm up with mulled wine or hot chocolate, or buy from street food vendors Dumpling Mama and The Wee Churros Corner.

The Farm Shop at Balgove Larder will also be open throughout the evening. The Butchery will offer roasts, stuffing, chipolatas and bacon, while the wider shop will stock locally grown winter vegetables, Christmas trees, homemade wreaths, seasonal gifts and treats from the Deli, Café and Homestore.
