A new study has identified Manchester as the top UK city for wine tasting tours.

The research, conducted by the Prestigious UK Organic Estate company Rhug Estate, analysed wine tasting tours across major UK cities using TripAdvisor as the primary data source. By comparing the number of wine-tasting tours to each city’s land area, the study determined which cities offer the highest concentration of wine-tasting tours. Land area data was sourced from World Population Review.

Manchester ranks first with one wine tasting tour every 11 square miles. With 4 experiences across 44.6 square miles, wine enthusiasts can explore a vibrant urban tasting scene. Highlights include curated wine walks, boutique bar tastings, and immersive wine education sessions led by local experts.

Oxford holds the second position with one wine tasting tour every 18 square miles. Despite its small land area of 17.6 square miles, Oxford offers refined tasting experiences where visitors can sample select wines in the city’s historic and academic settings.

Edinburgh takes the third position with one wine tasting tour every 34 square miles. The city is home to 3 engaging experiences across its 102 square miles. Visitors can enjoy tastings paired with Scottish cheeses, intimate cellar gatherings, and educational sessions exploring both Old and New World wines.

Looking at the study, a spokesperson from Rhug Estate commented:

“This study highlights just how accessible wine tasting tours are across some of the UK’s most vibrant cities.”

“Whether you’re a Manchester local, wandering the historic streets of Oxford, or exploring the cultural delights of Edinburgh, wine lovers won’t have to look far to discover memorable tasting experiences.”

“It’s fascinating to see smaller cities like Aberdeen and Bristol offering unique, high-quality wine experiences, proving that the UK’s wine culture is thriving well beyond the traditional hotspots.”

Glasgow ties in third place with one wine tasting tour every 34 square miles. The city hosts 2 experiences across its 68 square miles. Favourites include tastings that pair wine with locally sourced foods and engaging sessions that explore diverse wine regions.

Aberdeen lands in fourth place with one wine tasting tour every 36 square miles. Spanning 71 square miles with 2 experiences, Aberdeen is developing a reputation for coastal-inspired tastings and boutique wine gatherings in elegant venues.

Bristol placed fifth with one wine tasting tour every 42 square miles, while Liverpool secured the sixth spot with a ratio of 43. Belfast followed closely in seventh at 44.4 square miles per tour. London came in eighth with one wine tasting tour every 47 square miles.
