Family-owned Ayrshire hospitality group, SimpsInns, has reopened the doors to its restaurant and bar at The Loans Inn following a £200,000 makeover.
Located on the outskirts of Troon in the quaint village of Loans, this award-winning hotel, country pub and restaurant has been a popular foodie hotspot on Main Street for almost 30 years. Now, owners Malcolm and Karen Simpson are looking to the future.

The stylish interior upgrade of the restaurant and bar has seen the venue transformed with mood lighting, muted plaid wallcoverings, statement artworks and mismatched furniture to help create a cosy and intimate dining experience.
Extensive works have also been completed to the external façade of the boutique hotel, plus a complete renovation of the adjoining four-bedroom self-catering holiday cottage.
Led by SimpsInns’ executive head chef and local resident, Ewan McAllister, the new-look Loans Inn is now serving up a tasty and refreshed menu to showcase local and seasonal produce.

As part of his new role, Ewan is taking a fresh look at all the culinary offerings across all SimpsInns venues on the Ayrshire coast.
Signature dishes on the new menu include Troon landed langoustine scampi (F.V. Spes Bona, Troon Harbour) and roast Ayrshire hake.
For those with a sweet tooth, desserts include warm apple and pear toffee crumble with crème anglaise.

Malcolm and Karen Simpson originally purchased the property back in 1996 and set about breathing new life into the former coaching inn.
After adding food onto the menu, Loans Inn operated successfully for over 10 years.
In 2008, the Simpson family closed and rebuilt the venue, adding 20 well-appointed 4-star bedrooms and a luxury cottage.
The hotel soon became synonymous with quality food and exceptional Scottish hospitality, as well as having been recognised four times as Scotland’s Small Golf Hotel of the Year.

Jack Simpson led the latest refurbishment project at The Loans Inn. He said: “We’re delighted to unveil the fresh new look to our restaurant, bar and menu for local diners and overnight guests.
“The Loans Inn has been very much part of community life here in Troon since we opened our doors back in 1996. We have a well-established reputation as one of Ayrshire’s most popular foodie hotspots.
“We will continue to provide the warm welcome, great food and exceptional service people know and love.”
The Loans Inn is owned and operated by the local, family-run hospitality group, SimpsInns. The Irvine-based Simpson family runs a collection of award-winning hotels, restaurants, bars, spa, golf, and leisure activities along the Ayrshire coast, including the group’s flagship venue, The Gailes Hotel & Spa in Irvine.

Malcolm Simpson from SimpsInns, said: “Our restaurant makeover at The Loans Inn is the latest part of our ongoing development plans for the SimpsInns group. We’re committed to exceeding our guests’ expectations and are regularly investing in our hotel and leisure facilities.
“2025 is set to be a really exciting year for our family-run firm, which will include the launch of our new £3million sea view spa and the introduction of 17 additional guest rooms at The Waterside Hotel in West Kilbride.”
