SCOTTISH gin brand, 1881 Distillery, has teamed up with the Scottish Bee Company to create a limited release of an Old Tom style gin sweetened with Scottish honey.

Just 500 bottles of Garden Gin have been made. The gin was inspired by the greenhouses and former conservatories of Peebles Hydro in the Borders, where 1881 Distillery is based.

The distillery partnered with the Scottish Bee Company to use its Blossom Honey to add a subtle sweetness to the gin.

Charlie Leckie, Brand Manager for 1881 Distillery, said: “The flavours of Garden Gin were inspired by the greenhouses and conservatories at the hotel which used to house citruses like oranges, lemons and limes as well as various tropical plants.

“We pair these fruits with sweet, floral hibiscus and bold red chilli to serve a light style gin with some punchy spice undertones. The Scottish honey gives a lovely sweetness to the gin.

“We think its best served alongside a bitter lemon and a touch of candied ginger.”

Part of Peebles Hydro Hotel, 1881 Distillery was created in 2018 and named after the year Peebles Hydro Hotel was founded. The gin brand draws from the hotel’s rich heritage, with many of the gins inspired by its location and history.

50cl bottles of Garden Gin can be purchased for £28 fromwww.1881distillery.com.
