Aberdeen event on October 4 to support families affected by recent floods.
Authentic Nepali and Indian restaurant 8848 is collaborating with chef Craig Wilson, The Kilted Chef, for a special charity lunch on Sunday, 4 October. The event, held at 8848 in Aberdeen, aims to raise funds for families affected by the devastating floods in Nepal. It follows the success of 8848’s previous ‘Kilts & Spice’ events, bringing together Scottish produce and the distinctive flavours of Nepal and India.
The charity lunch will begin at 2pm and feature live music, entertainment, and a raffle, with all proceeds donated to support those impacted by the floods. Craig Wilson will work alongside the 8848 kitchen team to create a special menu showcasing Scottish produce with a Nepalese and Indian twist.
Dishes will include pan-fried Scottish salmon with Kasundi mustard and wild honey spices, mango butter chicken, and slow-cooked Scottish lamb curry. Guests can also expect a Himalayan vegetable medley, followed by warm raspberry brownie, honeycomb ice-cream, and cardamom shrikhand.
Krish Bhetuwal from 8848 said: “Nepal is very close to our hearts, so when we saw the devastating impact of the recent floods, we wanted to find a way to help. Working with Craig again gives us the opportunity to bring people together through food while supporting a cause that means a great deal to us. Our Kilts & Spice events have shown how much people enjoy the combination of Scottish produce and Nepali and Indian flavours, so we’re looking forward to creating another memorable afternoon at 8848.”
Craig Wilson, The Kilted Chef, added: “8848 is one of my favourite restaurants in Aberdeen and I always enjoy working with Krish and the kitchen team. We have some fantastic local produce to work with and I’m looking forward to combining that with the bold flavours and spices of Nepal and India. Supporting charitable causes is important to me, so when Krish and the team asked me to get involved, I didn’t hesitate.”
The charity lunch will also be supported by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Dr David J Cameron, who will attend the event. Dr Cameron said: “The whole world was shocked by the devastation and loss of life caused by the collapse of the glacier in Nepal in late August.
“My thoughts as a person, and as Lord Provost of Aberdeen, are with the Nepalese people, in particular the Nepalese community in Aberdeen, at this very difficult time. I would like to record my thanks to the Kilted Chef and Krish from 8848 for organising this charitable fundraising event for such a deserving cause.”
