Diageo, the global spirits giant, has unveiled plans for a significant redevelopment of the iconic Talisker Distillery on the Isle of Skye.
The proposal, submitted to the Highland Council, outlines a comprehensive overhaul that could reshape the future of Scotland’s oldest working distillery on the island.
The plans include constructing a new distillery that incorporates sustainable technologies and aims to expand the existing output of Talisker whisky.
Proposed improvements encompass new access routes, drainage systems, and landscaping, while current production facilities are slated for removal once the new distillery is operational.
A spokesperson at Diageo, said: “As a business, we continually review our production footprint in support of our long-term growth ambitions for Scotch and the proposal of application notice (PAN) for Talisker Distillery allows us to explore and evaluate potential options.
“A public consultation will form part of the PAN, however at this point in time we have no firm plans of investment.
“Details of the public consultation arrangements will be shared in due course where the community will be able to view these proposals and provide feedback.”
Diageo has committed to conducting a public consultation as part of the planning process, emphasising the importance of community input.
Although specific investment figures remain undisclosed, the scale of the proposed changes suggests a significant financial commitment to Talisker’s future.
