Scottish family business Brownings the Bakers has landed a £1 million national supply deal with Co-op, marking a major milestone for its signature Kilmarnock Pie.

The partnership will see a trio of Brownings’ famous pies — the Kilmarnock Pie, Steak and Gravy Pie, and Scotch Pie — rolled out across Co-op stores throughout the UK. The new deal significantly expands the reach of the Kilmarnock-based bakery, which has built a strong reputation for quality, tradition, and local craftsmanship.

Managing Director John Gall said the agreement highlighted the brand’s growing national recognition: “We’re incredibly proud to see our products moving onto shelves across the UK. It’s a real credit to the hard work of our team and the loyalty of our customers in Ayrshire and beyond.”

Founded in 1945, Brownings the Bakers has grown from a small family-run bakery into one of Scotland’s leading craft producers, employing more than 200 people. The business already supplies major retailers including Aldi, Asda, Tesco, and M&S, but the Co-op deal represents one of its largest single contracts to date.

The Kilmarnock Pie, often hailed as a local institution, has won multiple Scottish Baker of the Year awards and remains central to Brownings’ identity. The company plans to continue investing in growth and new product development, with the Co-op listing expected to boost both production and brand visibility nationwide.

Gall added: “Our mission has always been to champion Scottish baking craftsmanship, and this partnership brings that heritage to an even bigger audience. It’s an exciting time for everyone at Brownings.”
